Project APVV-0864-12
Maya Ritual and Astronomical Complex
The main goal of this project is to verify, explain, and preserve the new ritual and astronomical observatory discovered by Slovak research in Uaxactun, Guatemala. The project includes creating a 3D model and presenting the findings in Slovakia and worldwide.
Verification: In collaboration with the observatory in Hlohovec, we will verify calculation accuracy and create graphic models of the observatory as it existed between 100 BC – 150 AD.
Explanation: Religious and ritual comparisons and iconographical analyses will contextualize these observations within contemporary ritualism.
Preservation: Advanced restoration technologies, including innovative nanotechnologies, will be applied to the original stucco mask to preserve it for future generations.
Creating a Model: Physical models of the jaguar god mask on the observatory façade, along with a virtual 3D model, will be developed.
Presentation: The project will build a smaller replica in Slovakia, host an interactive exhibition with the 3D model, and create a permanent website. This ensures that the oldest and most significant Mayan observatory will be not only discovered but fully explained, interpreted, preserved, and shared with the world.
